BIKE DOWN for BIKE-GO-ROUND DATE CHANGE NOTICE! In hopes to ensure better weather and entice more great people to join us for this 3-day bike trip, originally scheduled for February, we have pushed the datemore...

BIKE DOWN for BIKE-GO-ROUND

DATE CHANGE NOTICE!

In hopes to ensure better weather and entice more great people to join us for this 3-day bike trip, originally scheduled for February, we have pushed the date back to Friday March 29th – Sunday March 31st.

A benefit ride for the Bike Go Round, a Cycles of Change program that has given away over 750 bikes to adults who lacked reliable transportation. This program is in danger of getting cut, and we need to raise $15,000 by March 1st to save it.

Initiated in 2009, the Bike-Go-Round is our first program for adults. We outfit new commuters with everything needed to make bicycling their primary form of transportation—a bicycle, helmet, lock, safety lights, rack and panniers, classes in maintenance and safe riding, and support in finding routes and using public transportation.

In the last three years the Bike-Go-Round project has served 500 new bicycle commuters, employed 5 young people in our neighborhood bike centers, and reused over 750 bicycles.
Bike-Go-Round operates out of The Bikery, a community bicycle education and repair center and used bike shop. The Bikery has a youth-operated earn-a-bike program and serves both adults and youth participants of various Cycles of Change programs. Our low-cost repairs and sliding scale prices are vital to keep new as well as seasoned bike commuters wheeling everyday.

RIDE TO SUPPORT CYCLES

For three days, combine your love of cycling with your passion for social justice by pedaling down the coast with Cycles of Change. From San Francisco, we’ll spin through Golden Gate Park and down the Great Highway, taking in breathtaking views out over the Pacific and down toward Monterey.

Our second day, we’ll visit Pie Ranch, an organic farm that gets youth outdoors and teaches them about the food system. We’ll eat a delicious lunch while sharing stories about how to reshape the relationships between people and the land.

From there, we’ll head to Santa Cruz for a potluck dinner with locals and check out the Santa Cruz Hub for Sustainable Living, the home of various projects that involve skill sharing, resource sharing, and human-powered transportation.

The third day of riding will end with a potluck lunch in Watsonville before we shuttle back to the Bay.

SIGN UP TO RIDE!

By joining the ride, you’ll not only be supporting Cycles of Change – you’ll also be building community with like-minded people, learning about other projects working to build healthy, sustainable communities, and riding through beautiful places.

Riders are asked to make a fundraising commitment of $1,500 to participate in the ride. We recognize that each person has different financial circumstances and ability to access resources, and we strive to be able to accept participants regardless of their ability to raise funds. With this in mind, we will provide LOTS of support to help you raise money. If you have questions or concerns about the fundraising commitment, please let us know!

A $1500 fundraising commitment covers:

A support and gear vehicle to carry baggage
Food and lodging for the duration of the trip
Liability insurance for the riders

It does not cover:

Transportation to the start of the ride
Bicycles or bike gear
Souvenirs, mementoes, or parties
Health insurance

Scholarships are available for those with limited resources to cover the cost of the ride, transportation, bicycles, etc. You’re still on your own for parties, though.

Space is limited! Sign up today!

APPLICATION DEADLINE IS FEBRUARY 1st

As soon as your application is accepted, you’ll receive an information packet with lots of helpful information, including fundraising resources, a detailed itinerary, packing list, and more!

A $100 deposit is required to secure your place in the ride.

APPLY HERE!

Cycles of Change has been super busy since the New Year!

Our brand new Bikemobile has begun visiting Alameda County schools, recreation centers, and parks, to repair bikes, and teach bike mechanics and safety. Here we are at our first ever visit at the Manzanita Community Wellness Fair:

Fixing bikes at Manzanita Community Wellness Fair

If you want the Bikemobile to visit your program, please fill out an application.

We have also been taking advantage of the dry weather with our Skillz & Drills Bike Rodeos. You can contact the East Bay Bicycle Coalition to request a Cycles of Change rodeo for your event.

Cycles of Change Skillz & Drills Bike Rodeo

Then this past weekend we had two bike drives, in San Francisco and at Bret Harte Middle School. We received about 30 used bikes which will be used for our earn-a-bike and riding programs. Thank you!!

Cycles Board Members Nora & Susan at Bike Drive

And on Sunday afternoon, to top it all off, we had a wonderful crab feed fundraiser, Let’s Get Crackin’, put on by our dedicated board members. The crowd enjoyed amazing spicy crab, garlic noodles, rice & guts, and sangria. Thank you so much to everyone! We appreciate everything you do to keep our programs running.
