Student participants at Oakland and the East Bay schools make valuable connections to local resources and their environment by participating in our after-school bike clubs. School children at various public schools are given the opportunity to learn how to ride safely in our Safe Routes to Schools program. At our community bike shops, anyone can volunteer in the shop to earn-a-bike. School gardens connect youth with the natural environment, their food, and with each other.

Bike Clubs

Our after-school Bike Club programs offer opportunities for student participants at Oakland and other East Bay schools to learn bicycle mechanics, earn-a-bike, and learn safe riding skills while going on local, pedal-powered adventures.  Learn More >

Watershed Stewardship

An EPA funded program that has worked with 250 4th to 8th grade students in public schools across Oakland. The curriculum teaches students about what Oakland looked like before the gold rush (massive old growth redwood forests and wet lands that stretched for miles) who lived here (grizzly bear, elk, bobcat, coyote and numbers of Native American tribes), how things have changed, the types of pollutants that are now affecting us here in Oakland, and how these pollutants make their way into our watersheds.
