Cycles of Change has been building a network of neighborhood-based bicycle education and distribution programs to serve the transportation needs of thousands of Oakland and the East Bay’s most vulnerable residents for over a decade. Each year, we recover, restore, and distribute over 1,000 bicycles, many to low-income people who participated in Cycles of Change’s earn-a-bike program. Over 1,200 community members learned basic bike mechanic skills, received bicycle repair services, or restored bicycles for their own use.
